We are seeking:

  • A producer who is creative, interested in working collaboratively and personable, with an interest in experimental performance , immersive theatre, and technology.

  • Someone who has significant experience producing new projects and can support an independent company with creative and strategic planning - preferably with experience writing successful Arts Council England bids.

We need someone who is confident to approach potential new partners and can hold existing relationships. TomYumSim are based in both London and Manchester, therefore this is a role that can work remotely, with at least one in person meeting.

Working with the Co-Artistic Directors, Tom and Simone, you will help develop and plan 3 of our shows ready to go: 'A Suffocating Choking Feeling', 'Salon' & 'Hotline' focusing on Project development ie. Building new partnerships, Tour booking & Schedule management.

Our plan is to employ a separate bid writer to write an organisational ACE bid to be submitted by the end of Aug ’23 with these 3 shows included, and we'd love to get some advice from you on this.

Role includes:

  • Approaching venues and booking a national tour of 5 venues for our flagship show ‘A Suffocating Choking Feeling’ for Spring/Summer ’24 (To be completed by End of Sep ’23)

  • Developing tour packs for two interactive festival works 'Salon' & 'Hotline' and exploring different touring opportunities for ’24/’25 (Initial plans to be completed end of Sept ’23)

  • Plan and develop new partnerships for an R&D of a large scale immersive site-specific piece for Spring ’25 'Choatica'. We are hoping to collaborate with you on the creative vision for this work. (Initial plans to be completed end of Sept ’23)

We are currently working on our company development and it is our intention to include a Producer role in our ACE Bid. We hope to continue working with you on these projects into the future, subject to funding. :)

The shows we’d like your assistance on are:

  • READY TO TOUR: ‘A Suffocating Choking Feeling’ - Our flagship show, exploring the ethics of faking illness online, combining live performance with live streaming via Instagram

  • READY TO TOUR: ‘Hotline’ (previously at Word of Warning/MIF) - a subversive live one-to-one phone performance that turns the mundane into magic

  • READY TO TOUR: ‘The Salon’ (previously at Cambridge Junction) - an immersive and interactive self-care experience

  • IN DEVELOPMENT: ‘Chaotica’  - A new large-scale interactive electronic musical, originally developed at the Royal Exchange Theatre

We are TomYumSim (Tom Halls and Simone French) - a company dedicated to producing interactive theatre that engages and challenges audiences to think critically about themselves and the world around them.

We embrace our wacky queer sensibility, neurodivergent brains and a DIY methodology, to make work that is interdisciplinary; using digital technologies, music and video to make live and interactive experiences. Originally from Australia, we are based across Greater Manchester and London.

We have presented work across the UK and Australia; including Manchester International Festival, Cambridge Junction, Manchester Pride, Theatre Deli, Royal Exchange Theatre, Camden People’s Theatre,  Pleasance Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe, People's History Museum, The Yard, Word of Warning, Contact, People's History Museum, Melbourne Fringe, Perth Fringe, La Mama Theatre and Federation Square.

As an independent company we have learnt by upskilling and therefore have taken on the responsibilities of: videography, av design, sound recording & editing, costume, devising, directing, producing and marketing. We have reached a point where we want to collaborate with a producer to share the workload, learn from your expertise and breathe opportunity into our fabulous and innovative shows.

As a freelance producer you will be responsible for tax and National Insurance contributions.

We will cover travel costs to attend an in person meeting.

Please send CV & Expression of Interest (Written or Video/Audio Recorded) outlining your experience and alignment with the role to the team at by Monday 24th July.

We will contact all candidates by end of day Tues 25th July and invite shortlisted candidates for a Zoom interview.

Look forward to hearing from all the wild and wonderful Creative Producers!
